Step 1: Create a Custom Theme
Custom Themes allow you to build tailored analyses around specific research questions or focus areas.
To create one:
Navigate to the Themes Analysis section and click on "Add Theme".
Enter a free-text query that describes the question or concept you want to explore.
Genway will automatically group related questions and answers across interviews based on your input.
This process transforms qualitative insights into measurable, visual data, helping you better understand how participants discuss a particular topic.
Step 2: Write Effective Custom Theme Queries
Make sure your question directly relates to the specific project you’re analyzing.
Phrase the query similarly to how the AI Agent would ask it during an interview.
Use specific keywords related to your area of interest to minimize irrelevant results.
Write complete sentences of more than seven words that are grammatically correct.
Example Queries:
“What factors do participants consider when choosing a subscription plan?”
“How do users describe challenges they faced while signing up?”
Step 3: Review System-Generated Topics
Once you’ve created a custom theme, Genway automatically identifies and tags related responses from your interviews.
These responses are then grouped into topics that can be quantified and filtered - just like standard themes.
This helps you visualize the prevalence and sentiment of specific ideas across multiple participants.
Step 4: Add Custom Topics
You can create Custom Topics for both regular and custom themes. These are helpful when you identify patterns or insights that the system did not automatically detect.
To create a custom topic:
Select a theme (regular or custom).
Add a new topic and name it based on your observed pattern or theme.
Genway’s system will tag relevant quotes and answers using semantic relevance - not just keyword matching.
This ensures accuracy and depth, even when participants express similar ideas using different wording.
Custom Themes and Topics help you tailor Genway’s AI insights to your specific research needs. By blending automation with manual precision, you can explore your data from multiple angles — balancing discovery with direction.
Thank you for following this guide, and happy analyzing!
