Overview

An AI Moderated Survey is a dynamic research method where an AI agent guides participants through a structured yet conversational experience. While an AI Moderated Interview is fully qualitative and explores topics in depth, an AI Moderated Survey blends both qualitative and quantitative questions—allowing teams to collect rich explanations alongside measurable data points. The AI adapts its questioning based on participant responses, ensuring relevance and depth without sacrificing scale. This format is ideal when you need more nuance than a traditional survey can provide but still want to gather structured metrics, making it especially useful for product feedback, concept validation, competitive intelligence, and early-stage discovery.

Create a New Project - AI Moderated Survey

To begin, navigate to Create a Project in your Genway dashboard. Select AI Moderated Survey and give your project a name.

Participants will be able to complete the survey on both mobile and desktop devices.

Example: Netflix customer churn survey

Add and Manage Blocks

After clicking Add Block, you’ll see all available block types, along with upcoming block types listed in the Roadmap.
To receive updates on future block types, click the Notifications Icon.

Block Structure

(Applies to all block types except Media)

  1. Question: Enter a question that fits the selected block type. (See examples below.)

  2. Description: Add helpful details or context to guide participants. The AI Agent will not read this description aloud.

  3. Image: Optionally upload an image to accompany the question.

  4. Answers Selection: (Applicable for Rating and Multiple Choice blocks.) Configure response options as needed.

  5. Follow-Up Questions: Toggle on AI Follow-ups to let Genway’s AI Agent ask deeper, related questions. You can add custom follow-ups and specify how many follow-up questions should be asked (up to 4 follow ups).

Block Types

  1. General Message: Display a custom message anywhere in the survey - often used for introductions, transitions, or additional guidance.

  2. Open-Ended: Collect qualitative feedback from participants in their own words.

    • This is the only block where participants respond by speaking instead of typing.

  3. Multiple Choice: Provide a list of options. You can allow participants to choose one or multiple answers.

  4. Rating: Use a numerical scale (e.g., 1–10). Optionally label the lowest and highest values (e.g., TerribleExcellent).

  5. Media Upload: Request participants to upload an image or screenshot during the survey.
